Introduction
This novel describes a journey of self-discovery for the young protagonist Rachel Vinrace, who embarks for South America on her father's ship. It's said to reflect Woolf's own growth as an author and an individual when she was introduced to the Bloomsbury Group. It also introduces the character Clarissa Dalloway from the later novel 'Mrs Dalloway'.
